WTVY. Lynesy Smith. September 11, 2018.

As one of Alabama's bicentennial schools, Montana Magnet received a $2,000 grant that enables them to help out their local community.

By partnering up with Aunt Katie's Community Garden, the students and teachers will help maintain the grounds around the garden as well as planting and growing vegetables every Tuesday from now until April.

The magnet schools' goal is to promote a healthy-living lifestyle for its students.

Sonia Crutchfield, Third Grade teacher at Montana Street Magnet School, says "We are just trying to develop the whole child, not just the educational aspect but we want them to become world citizens. We want them to realize that their actions impact the entire world around them. We want them to realize that they don't need to just be receivers but to be givers also."

Montana Street Magnet school will be donating all the produce that they grow to The Harbor and the families that surround Aunt Katie's Community Garden.
