MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) - Mobile County Public School Superintendent Chresal Threadgill got to do the honors, presenting the certificate to Phillips Preparatory Magnet School as an International Baccalaureate School.

It happened Thursday during a celebration that has been two and a half years in the making.

"The hard work paid off and now I'm getting emotional---because it's been such a wonderful journey--and to hear the high school students talk about how much they were prepared for high school just confirmed what we do here really works," said Phillips Prep Principal Brenda Hartzog.

The IB program is a global one that emphasizes personal and academic achievement.

"They're always trying to push us to our best, to make sure that we're ready for our future and make sure that we're college-bound and make sure that we're going to have all the materials that we need for life," said Eighth-grader Madison Hunter.

The IB program is an accelerated way of learning. The advanced curriculum may give students not only an edge in high school, but also in college and beyond.
